FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Last week we saw how Jesus fed the five thousand and the people were overwhelmed by His miracle power. They are still following Him but only because they want more miracles, more catering. Jesus has to tell them that they were using Him, following Him for material reasons. Jesus did not come for that. Jesus is the bread come down from heaven. We will share in His life if we eat the bread that He gives, have faith in Jesus and give evidence of that faith by going about doing good. In other words, He gives Himself to us and, in turn, we give ourselves to others in service. This is real communion with Jesus and with one another.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

BULLETIN BITS
In the Gospel today, Peter yearns to do something to make concrete the Transfiguration he had witnessed. But to be a good steward of this spiritual gift, he was instructed to be still, to listen to Jesus, and to wait for His direction. Good advice for us, too!
OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Spiritual Direction is a practice that dates back to the first centuries of Christianity, when people sought spiritual guidance from prayerful women and men living in the desert. In the Middle Ages. the term, “Spiritual Direction” became common. Today it is a renewed practice in the Christian traditions, as more than ever, there is a desire for a deeper awareness of God’s presence and action within us. In a Spiritual Direction relationship, one person assists another by being a supportive listening presence, to reflect on God’s presence and action in one’s life, by affirming that which is growth producing, by giving encouragement. Lay persons, religious and clergy may come to Spiritual Direction to grow deeper in relating to God, others, self and creation; discern and make difficult choices; share struggles, losses, joys, successes and disappointments. Depending on what is taking place in one’s life, a person may see a Director every week or every other week. Most persons see a Director once a month. This ministry is available to persons who desire it regardless of ability to pay or not. A suggested donation of $20 to support this ministry is recommended for each session. For an appointment call Sr. Gladys Marhefka,SGM at 781-862-0938 (home) or 781-862-4700, ext. 35 (day office). Sister Marhefka is a Sister of Charity of Montreal, “Grey Nuns”. She is presently assigned at St. Marguerite d’Youville Center for Spirituality at 1977 Mass Ave., Lexington, MA.
CONGRATULATIONS
To Mary and Bob Collins, long-time parishioners of St. Barbara’s, on being honored for their commitment to children. Both the DSS and MSPCC have named them as FOSTER PARENTS OF THE YEAR. Over the past seven years Mary and Bob have opened their home and hearts to over 25 foster children from a variety of ethnic, racial and family backgrounds. The Cambridge-area office officials said they feel strongly that the Collins family is the model around which other foster families could be built. “We are extremely grateful to our many foster families who make a profound daily commitment to our children, so they may have a better life,” DSS Commissioner Harry Spence expressed. “I am thrilled we can recognize these wonderful families.” I am sure many of you have seen Mary pushing a baby carriage up Lexington Street early in the morning, rain or shine. The whole family are a feature at early Mass every Sunday morning. You are both doing a great job!!
KIDS!!
“Ýou’re not supposed to talk out loud in church,” scolded Angie.
“Why? Who’s going to stop me?” Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, “See those two men standing by the door? They’re hushers.”
