SUMMERTIME AND PARISH SUPPORT

The summer season is well underway, bringing with it time for much needed rest and relaxation. All of us need to take time to be with family and friends in a more relaxed and less work-stressed way. Please remember, there is no vacation from large parish expenditures for utilities, maintenance and insurance! If you will be away from Woburn for a time, why not use the handy mail-in envelope which is provided in your packet of parish support envelopes. Thank you. God bless you for all your loyal support of St. Barbara Parish.

HELP!!!HELP!!!

Grade 9 PREP is badly in need of a teacher for next year’s program. Please call Ann Cronin if you can help – 781-933-9334.

BULLETIN BITS

“The hand of the Lord feeds us,” says the psalmist; “he answers all our needs.” Both Elisha’s servant in the first reading and the disciples in the Gospel story who witnessed the feeding of the five thousand saw this happen and knew it to be true.

SPECIAL PARISH LITURGICAL EVENTS

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered next Saturday afternoon, July 29th, after the 4 p.m. Mass. Who can receive this Sacrament? Those who are chronically ill, are having treatments, or will be having surgery this month. We invite you to come receive the Sacrament of the Sick, a source of strength, healing and grace. If you would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, it would be helpful if you tell the priest before Mass.
BAPTISM
Baptism of infants will take place on Saturday, August 5th, at the 4:00 p.m. Mass.

FOOD PANTRY

The collection of canned food and nonperishable items will be taken up at all the Masses this weekend – July 29-30. Please try to bring at least one item to Mass with you. The need is greater during the summer months with the children home from school for three meals a day. Social Concerns has asked if we could run a mini food drive from now to the end of the summer, it would go a long way toward alleviating hunger in our community.

PREP TEACHERS NEEDED

We are also in need of three teachers for Grade 4, which meets Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15 and three teachers for Grade 5, which meets Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:15 in the Church, or classes may be held in your home at your convenience. Will you give an hour a week to share your faith with the children of St. Barbara’s? If you would like to be a volunteer, please call Barbara at 781-935-0529. Thank you.

DARE FAMILY SERVICES

Helping kids in your community…for a week, a month, a year…a lifetime. Dare Family Services is a specialized foster care agency with an office in Somerville. We are currently looking for homes in the Woburn area for our local foster kids. If you have a desire to help a child in need of a family, or know someone that might be interested, please call Marilyn or Janelle at (617) 628-3696. www.darefamily.org.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Jesus attracted thousands of people and He always gave them something – some teaching, a healing miracle of His love. A large crowd had followed Jesus and they were hungry. No one had enough money to buy food to feed them. A boy in the crowd had five barley loaves and two fish, but how far would that go with five thousand or so people. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, gave thanks, and gave them to the people. After they had their fill twelve baskets of leftovers were collected. Everyone had more than enough to eat. We need only do our best and then Jesus takes care of the rest. He never lets us down.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
