2nd COLLECTION

This week, the second collection sponsored by the Bishops of the United States, is to aid in rebuilding itself after more than 70 years of communist suppression. Catholics in Eastern Europe have repeatedly expressed gratitude for the financial support from their American sisters and brothers. Proceeds are used to support seminaries, social service programs, youth ministry, church restoration, and the spread of the gospel message through the mass media.

FOOD PANTRY

The collection of canned food and nonperishable items will be taken up next weekend, July 29-30. In the summer months donations greatly diminish although the need is usually greater because the children do not get their lunch at school. Their WISH LIST is for canned fruit, canned meat (Spam, hash, stew, etc.) jelly, juice, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables and fruit, canned Beefaroni, Spaghettios, etc. Please help.

SPECIAL PARISH LITURGICAL EVENTS

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered next Saturday afternoon, July 29th, after the 4 p.m. Mass. Who can receive this Sacrament? Those who are chronically ill, are having treatments, or will be having surgery this month. We invite you to come receive the Sacrament of the Sick, a source of strength, healing and grace. If you would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, it would be helpful if you tell the priest before Mass.

BULLETIN BITS

In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a little rest. When He saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of others. Sometimes, as good stewards, we are called to do the same.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

All of us like to go on vacation. The Apostles had gone off to preach, teach and heal the sick. Now they returned probably happy, enthusiastic but in need of a little rest, a little vacation time. Yet the people had other ideas. They wanted to be near Christ. There were so many of them that the apostles didn’t have time to eat. So, off they go in a boat to the other side of the lake. People saw them leaving and hastened to the spot even before they arrived by boat! Jesus had pity on the crowd and He began to teach them many things. We all need vacation time to rest, relax and recuperate. But there is no vacation from love, from following Christ.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

VOICE OF THE FAITHFUL

The Winchester Area Voice of the Faithful invites you to a special program at St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, MA, on Monday, July 24th, at 7:30 p.m. relative to Parish Closings: Different Experiences, Different Perspectives. In May 2004, the Archdiocese of Boston announced the closing of approximately 60 parishes. Representatives of four parishes will describe their experiences:
  • St. Albert the Great, Weymouth, reopened in 2005 after a vigil of several months.
  • St. James, Arlington, closed in 2004.
  • Holy Family Parish, Concord, created from two closed parishes in Concord.
  • St. Anselm’s, Sudbury, recently named the Archdiocese’s only rectorate after being in vigil for nearly two years.

ADOPT TROOPS & FAMILIES!

This July 4th Catholic Digest is launching a very special program to bring spiritual comfort and support to our military troops and their families and to support the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. Show our dedicated soldiers and their families how much you appreciate their sacrifices! Send a Catholic Digest subscription to a service member or family you know. Those who wait at home need your support, too. The hardship of separation often takes a heart-breaking toll on families. A portion of each subscription will be donated to the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA, to support its mission and ministry as its chaplains reach out to our brave men and women in the armed forces who serve their country in Iraq and around the world.
