BLACK & INDIAN MISSION COLLECTION

This collection will be taken up at all the Masses this weekend. We ask your support and generosity that, once again, needed assistance may be available. This year the appeal has been different – and the reason, no explanation really needed – Katrina - Rita – Wima – the hurricanes. In Biloxi, and New Orleans and over several hundred miles of the Gulf Coast, many churches, schools, and entire parish facilities were totally destroyed and/or nearly became worthless for use.

CAR WASH – MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION

The Community of Hope is sponsoring a car wash to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. Please call Mark Visconte at 508-400-2268 for further information.

USHERS

Ushers are needed at all Masses. If interested, please leave your name with an usher or call the rectory.

BULLETIN BITS

During this time, we celebrate the independence of our country. We would do well to echo the psalmist, saying, “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for His mercy.” May we always recognize and use wisely the gifts of freedom and abundance He has showered upon us. See Psalm 123.

P.R.E.P. TEACHERS NEEDED

We are in need of 3 teachers for Grade 4 which meets Thursday from 3:15-4:15 and 3 teachers for Grade 5 which meets Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 in the Church Hall. Classes may be held in your home at your convenience. Will you give an hour a week to share your faith with the children of St. Barbara’s? If you would like to volunteer, please call Barbara at 781-935-0529. Thank you.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

“Where did this man get all this?” People were amazed, confounded and upset that Jesus, whom they thought they knew, could work miracles and speak to them as no other man ever did. Mark tells us that his townsfolk took offense at Him. Jesus is amazed at their lack of faith. He is hurt and offended. But He does not give up His mission. He moves on to where He will be accepted and appreciated. Has there ever been a great person who was not rejected, ridiculed and humiliated because his message was too powerful? It is so easy to put people in categories and judge them? Do we allow any room for growth in our consideration of others whom we have already discarded? “She’ll never change.” “He’s in his own world.” “That family has always been that way, what do you expect?” People can change for the better. We find God where we least expect to find Him.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING

There will be a 90-minute introductory slide presenta-tion for Billings Method of Natural Family Planning (NFP) on Wednesday, July 12th, at 7 p.m. in the rectory of St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury. NFP is a scien-tifically based method which helps couples to under-stand their fertility, including those who are breast-feeding, pre-menopausal or who have irregular cycles. Each couple can then choose to use this knowledge to either avoid or achieve a pregnancy. For couples using the method to avoid a pregnancy, it is over 99% effective. Couples with infertility can be greatly helped in their efforts toward achieving a pregnancy using only morally licit means. For more information or to reserve a seat, please call Eileen Wood at 978-640-4916.

WINCHESTER AREA VOICE OF THE FAITHFUL

invites you to a special evening: “A Journey with Survivors”. In 2005, several survivors of clergy sexual abuse traveled to Nicaragua in the hope of obtaining some measure of healing from their abuse, however temporary. Steve Sheehan, a member of St. Ignatius Parish in Chestnut Hill, and an active member of VOTF and supporter of survivors of clergy sexual abuse, accompanied the abused survivors on this fascinating trip. Through the use of video and slides, Steve will provide us with a vivid account of the trip. Monday, July 10, 7:30 p.m. St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, MA.
