BULLETIN BITS
Today’s reading from St. Paul explains the “divine economy” of stewardship – “The relief of others ought not to impoverish you; there should be a certain equality. Your plenty at the present time should supply their needs so that their surplus may, in turn, one day supply your need.
BLACK & INDIAN MISSIONS
The Black and Native American Collection will be taken up in our Archdiocese and Parish on July 8th and 9th. We ask your support and generosity that once again, needed assistance may be available in these parts of our country. What began over a century ago, and has been a tremendous success for the Church, is needed today as in the past. Those who do contribute are really a part of the missionary program of the Church fulfilling the vocation of the Church.
P.R.E.P. TEACHERS NEEDED
We are in need of 3 teachers for Grade 4 which meets Thursday from 3:15-4:15 and 3 teachers for Grade 5 which meets Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 in the Church Hall. Classes may be held in your home at your convenience. Will you give an hour a week to share your faith with the children of St. Barbara’s? If you would like to volunteer, please call Barbara at 781-935-0529. Thank you.
2006 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
We would like to thank everyone who has already participated in this year’s campaign. If you have not yet given to the Appeal, please consider making a gift that will help meet the needs of so many within our faith community. Remember, our parish will receive 25% of all funds we raise above our goal. Each gift has the potential to increase Parish revenue while still supporting the ministries funded by the Catholic Appeal. Pledge forms can be found at the back of the Church.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
In today’s gospel, Jesus returns to the lakeside and is met by Jairus whose daughter is dying. On the way to his house, Jesus is confronted by a woman who has been ill for years, and she has faith that Jesus can heal her. The crowd is so large that she is jostled here and there. She finally gets close to Jesus, but she is behind Him. At any rate she reaches out and touches His garment and she is cured. He admires her faith. She did not give up. When He arrives at Jairus’ house he raises the girl from death to life. The obvious conclusion is that Jesus has power over life. If the woman gave up, she would not have had a healing. If Jairus didn’t believe, his daughter would have been buried in her very early teens. Sickness and death are all around us. Those Jesus cured and raised up, eventually died. But that is not the point. Jesus has power over sin and death. Can we hold on to that in a world where so many crises, so many disappointments, so many tragic events, shake the foundation of our lives? Can we believe without seeing? Can we continue to trust that God has a plan and no matter how it touches us, He is with us?
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

WOMEN’S RETREAT
On Saturday, June 24th, 18 ladies, most of them from St. Barbara’s Parish, spent a rainy day on retreat at the Franciscan Center in Andover. By the end of the day it was clear and nice enough for us to tour the lovely grounds at St. Francis. We were pleased with the efforts of the priests and brothers and all the speakers during the day. The lovely chapel was used for Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with meditative background music. It was so nice to enjoy the company of old friends and also new ones that you just saw at Church. Thanks to all who attended and all who helped to make this day a success.
