BULLETIN BITS
Today’s reading from St. Paul explains the “divine economy” of stewardship – “The relief of others ought not to impoverish you; there should be a certain equality. Your plenty at the present time should supply their needs so that their surplus may, in turn, one day supply your need.
BLACK & INDIAN MISSIONS
The Black and Native American Collection will be taken up in our Archdiocese and Parish on July 8th and 9th. We ask your support and generosity that once again, needed assistance may be available in these parts of our country. What began over a century ago, and has been a tremendous success for the Church, is needed today as in the past. Those who do contribute are really a part of the missionary program of the Church fulfilling the vocation of the Church.
FIRST FRIDAY – JULY 7
There will be Benediction after the 9 a.m. Mass followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Prayer Room. During June, July, August, and September, the closing will be at 1 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet at the door of the Prayer Room for anyone who can spend a half-hour between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
“Who do you say that I am?” This question we all have to answer for ourselves. For Peter, for Paul the answer is unique. Peter says Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Paul says Jesus is the one in whom the fullness of God resides in bodily form. Each is saying the same thing but in a different way. That defines His personhood as the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. Yet it does not reach our hearts as much as description as Friend, Lord, Brother, King, Savior. Paul and Peter would agree that theological descriptions may convince the head, but not the heart. To both He was a friend whom they desired to please, wanted to be with and enjoyed talking about. A relationship was what mattered, not what they said about Him. And the same is true of us also. Who is Jesus for you? Do you have an ongoing relationship with Him? Are you comfortable in conversation with Him, spending time with Him each day in this way? Does He enter into your conversations with others? Does He factor in when you make important decisions, asking for His advice and counsel? Where do you run when things are overwhelming? No one but you can answer the question: “Who do you say that I am?” He’s not looking for a theological definition.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
