BULLETIN BITS
Like the sower, I scatter as seed my gifts of time, talent, and resources; and I trust that, by God’s grace and in God’s time, these small gifts of myself may grow and flourish and help to bring about the Kingdom of God.
ASIA-PACIFIC RIM CULTURAL EVENT
Last Sunday’s Cultural Event was an enormous success. It was quite different from other events our parish has hosted in the past. This event brought together many people from diverse backgrounds for an afternoon of camaraderie, entertainment, and excellent food.
The event’s committee worked tirelessly to present a varied program, beginning with a Japanese Drum Performance, Chinese Sword Dance, the Dance Philippine Performing Arts Company, the Art of Origami demonstration, and a demonstration of a Korean Tea Ceremony. Our own Saint Barbara’s Asia-Pacific Children’s Group entertained the audience with songs sung in English, Mandarin (Chinese) and Tagalog (Philippine).
Thank you to everyone who attended the program and made the event so memorable. My thanks, also, to the Committee members – Imelda Joson, Joy Murphy , Joe & Connie Sallese, John and Barbara Scalley, and Louise Sullivan. Father Vin

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
At the original Passover, the one-year old male lamb or goat was slaughtered and its blood was sprinkled on the doorposts and lintels of the homes of the Israelites in Egypt. It was a thanksgiving meal as the Israelites thanked God for delivering them that night from the enslavement of the Egyptians. Jesus gathered with His twelve friends at the Passover the night before He died. At this supper He took the unleavened bread and the cup of wine and gave it to them, this time telling them that the bread is His body and wine His blood. Jesus told His friends “to do this” in memory of His Passover, his sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection. The sacrament is something real and tangible that we receive until He returns. We give thanks (Eucharist) to God in Christ. The memorial meal, the Mass, which unites us in Christ is the source and expression of who we are as Christ’s friends: the Body of Christ. In other words, the celebration of the Eucharist is when the Body of Christ partakes of what it is, the Body of Christ.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Father Vin, Father Bill and Father Ned and staff of St. Barbara’s wish all the fathers, brothers, grandfathers and uncles a very Happy Father’s Day.
A FATHER’S PRAYER
I am alive, Lord, and I am grateful!
For the strength of my family, their every-morning-fresh-again-newness.
I thank You for the strong legs of my running children;
for the probing minds of my children in high school and college.
For the “all the world” my wife is to me---how can I thank You enough?
You, Lord, are life and all besides. Be everything to me and my family: so that we can, like You, be alive for all Who come to us looking for meaning and hope and help. Amen
