BULLETIN BITS

Adam & Eve were banished from the Garden because of their disobedience. But Jesus says in today’s Gospel that when we are obedient to God’s will – when we use our gifts to serve one another – we are part of His family. “Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to me.” This is the gift and fruit of Baptism. (See Mark 3:35)

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” We begin every prayer and good work with those words and the sign of the cross. God, we say, is a Trinity, three persons with the same Divine life, each one a distinct person. What that really tells us is that God is a community of persons. Three are three – Father, a Son, and a Spirit. They share the same life, the same divinity, the same love. And they have adopted us into their family. Thus, we are all brothers and sisters. Now, if we are members of the “God” family, do we not betray that when we do not love one another? We had better learn to get along with one another here in this life, because we just may be together for eternity.

We are happy to let you know that the church roof has been reshingled at a cost of $58,000 and the chimney repaired at a cost of $9,300. We are refurbishing the organ at a cost of $44,000. Where did the money come from??? From your contributions to the Promise for Tomorrow Campaign. The balance remaining in this account is now $2,500.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING

On Sunday, June 5, we had a Parish Pastoral Council Meeting and we welcomed the new members whom you elected a few weeks ago, Maureen and Jim McGurl, Rita Hennessey and Joe Sallese. The Parish Council members are my advisory board who help me in making decisions for the parish. The Financial Council advises me on the way the offertory income is put to best use for the expenses of church and rectory. As you notice in today’s bulletin we had to refurbish the roof of the church and now we are advised to update the organ which is in need of repair. We were able to do all these repairs because of your generosity to the Promise for Tomorrow Campaign. If that were not available we would have needed special collections. So you see how important your contributions have been. Our only source of income is the offertory collection which enables us to fund the daily expenses of operation. We truly appreciate your generosity because we are well aware of how expensive it is to run your own household. As you know a dollar today does not go very far, so we are grateful to you for what you do for your parish.
Fr. Vin

LECTOR TRAINING

St. Barbara’s welcomes all new lector candidates to a training series to be held in the Fr. Anadore Hall on June 13, 20, and 27, 2006. Topics will include the lector ministry after Vatican II, the source of the readings, and vocal techniques. Each two-hour session will start at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Completion of a training series is a prerequisite to becoming a lector at St. Barbara’s.

TINY SOULS

God just loves hearing from them!
Dear GOD:
Instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why don’t you just keep the ones you have? - Amy
Dear GOD:
I think about YOU sometimes even when I’m not praying. - Elliott
Dear GOD:
I didn’t think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool. - Eugene
Dear GOD:
The bad people laughed at Noah. “You made an ark on dry land, you fool.” But He was smart. He stuck with You. That’s what I would do. – Eddie.
