FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
The theme of today’s gospel is love. Jesus summed up the Christian life in this way: love of God and love for one another. Nothing is more demanding, harder, or more rewarding than this. Love for God and neighbor is the only way to live says Jesus. Then you are free and know the purpose and meaning for life. Love is more than pleasure or possession of those we love. Love is doing, not just making promises. It is, Jesus says, laying down one’s life – expending energy, talent and time for those we love. Thinking in terms of others not just ourselves. When life’s responsibilities are done with love, they are done better than with anger or resentment. Jesus lived in the real world. He was talking to the twelve who didn’t always get along, to brothers who lost patience with each other. This gathering of men could be envious and ambitious. Yet He could tell them to love one another. Admittedly they needed help
and when the Holy Spirit came upon them Jesus empowered them to love one another. Still they were free to love or not to love, as we are.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
