PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
Our parish pastoral council here at St. Barbara’s consists of approximately a dozen parishioners whose job is to advise the pastor on a variety of matters. It is an important job, as they represent you, the parishioners. It is also important that they represent all the members of the parish. We will soon elect new members to our council. We ask you to begin thinking about who you would like to represent you on the council. Perhaps you would like to be a member yourself. On the form below please nominate the candidate you wish to sponsor. Thank you.
I WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE: _________________________________________________________ TO BE A MEMBER OF ST. BARBARA’S PARISH COUNCIL.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
In today’s Gospel some Jews who came from the Greek provinces have arrived in Jerusalem, and they want to see Jesus and perhaps talk with Him. They had heard about His ministry of healing and preaching. They first speak with Philip and he, in turn, tells Andrew. Andrew and Philip bring them to Jesus. Jesus speaks to them about the hour of His glorification – that is His death. He says such things as: “The man who loves his life loses it,” and “once I am lifted up from earth I will draw all men to myself.” On this occasion God speaks on His behalf and confirms that Jesus will enter into glory but only by surrendering that which is the greatest gift a person can give: his very self. So, too, his followers must also “die” to this world so they can live forever.
One o the questions that was submitted to us in the parish questionnaire last fall was this: WHY DO PEOPLE LEAVE MASS AT COMMUNION TIME? Many people have complained, especially the Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers. Parishioners leave while Communion is distributed. Some leave when they receive the Eucharist. What is the reason? Is it to get to the parking lot first? We can understand if someone has to leave for serious reasons. But is that so many, every week? The Eucharistic Ministers have complained that people walk in front of them as they are administering the Sacrament, or shuffle behind them, to go to the side doors. One Sunday, a distinguished gentleman approached me and complained that he saw people leaving at communion time. He was not impressed by what he saw and told me those who left didn’t have much faith. He was a priest on vacation and participated in Mass as a member of the congregation. St. Barbara’s didn’t get high marks from him. It is obvious to the ministers celebrating Mass they many have left early, for when the recessional hymn is being sung the back pews of the church are emptied out before the ministers arrive at the front doors. Mass does not end until the last blessing and the priest and ministers have left the sanctuary.
