FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Today we see Jesus in the Temple. He is angered at what is taking place in the outer court of the Temple. He is in the Court of the Gentiles. It was there that foreigners, visitors to Jerusalem, could go to pray and to find peace. Instead, it was a marketplace. Buyers and sellers had set up shop and were selling animals, doves and sheep. These animals were to be used in the daily sacrifices, morning and evening. To make matters worse, the priests would only accept these animals for sacrifice and rejected any others that were purchased in the market places. Thus, they were making more money. And people had to exchange Roman coinage for temple currency and, in so doing, the money changers were charging a fee. So Jesus was furious at this display of financial and religious fraud. This temple is His Father’s house and He will have none of it. After this they were out to get him. Jesus was despised and rejected by the priests who stood to lose a lot of money. They also hated Him because of His preaching, His miracles, His courage, His strong will. Jesus will not be bought off even at the threat of death.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

Our parish pastoral council here at St. Barbara’s consists of approximately a dozen parishioners whose job is to advise the pastor on a variety of matters. It is an important job, as they represent you, the parishioners. It is also important that they represent all the members of the parish. We will soon elect new members to our council. We ask you to begin thinking about who you would like to represent you on the council. Perhaps you would like to be a member yourself. On the form below please nominate the candidate you wish to sponsor. Thank you.
