CAN YOU HELP??

We are already recruiting teachers for next year’s Religious Education program 2006-2007. Grades 7,8,9,10 are the grades for which we are most in need (Grades 11 & 12 have enough teachers). If you would consider helping out with the program, please come to an information night in the lower rectory on Thursday, March 16th at 7:00 p.m. This will be a good opportunity to get an overview of each grade, to take a look at the books and teaching materials. If you decide then that you would like to volunteer for a particular grade level, you can either teach your own class or team teach with a friend. We really pray you consider this and come to the meeting. For more information, call Ann Cronin 781-933-9334. Thank you.

RICE BOWLS

As part of our faith community’s Lenten observance, we are once again participating in Operation Rice Bowl. For 31 years, Operation Rice Bowl has inspired Catholics in the United States to pray, fast, learn and give as we increase our understanding of our global community. We encourage you to participate in Operation Rice Bowl at home with your family and loved ones. Bowls will be found at the exits of the Church this weekend.

A FAMILY AFFAIR

How can I make a positive movement toward the gift of Time, Talent and Treasure to my church and society at large?
These are considerations not for just the individual, but for families to discuss. One family may choose to work at a Soup Kitchen, another to give more regularly to the Sunday collection, another to help gather food for the local Food Pantry. Regardless of where and how one decides to steward, it is important to open the lines of communication in our family and our communities.
It is even more important to make stewardship a regular part of our lives and not just a haphazard occurrence. (2 Cor. 9:6)                Source: OSV

ST. FRANCIS RETREAT GUILD

Leave the noise of the world for a couple of days. Join us in a quiet, peaceful atmosphere at our Men’s Lenten Retreat, March 31-April 2, at Campion Renewal Center, Weston, Ma. For further information please contact Joe Pecora 781-933-2616 or Joe Sallese 781-935-2417.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

God will not be defeated by human weakness and failure. Although His children fall often, He will come to their rescue in His Son, Jesus. In Noah’s day, the flood renewed the world. Through the waters of Baptism, Jesus renews His people in a sacramental bath. Our Baptism is a “pledge to God of an irreproachable conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Jesus is also baptized in the Jordan, which begins His ministry as Messiah. His death is a baptism, as he hands himself over to God, submitting all He has and all He is to God. We learn to do this during Lent by prayer, fasting and acts of mercy. Lent prepares us for the renewal of our baptismal commitment at Easter.

A few months ago you were kind enough to fill out a survey in conjunction with the new Stewardship Program – Time, Talent and Treasure. It is my intention to answer in this column once a month some of the questions that you asked.

QUESTION: Why do you administer baptisms during the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses?
ANSWER: Baptism is a sacrament of initiation into the Body of Christ, the family of God, the Church. The Body of Christ is eminently present when the family of God gathers to celebrate liturgy. As God’s people we welcome the infant into the family of God, where the child receives the gift of new life, the Holy Spirit. All the sacraments flow from the Eucharistic presence of Christ, and thus baptism and Eucharist are properly celebrated together. Understanding baptism in this way, no baptism is “private,” and that is why the Church recommends baptism be administered at the celebration of Eucharist.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
