CAN YOU HELP??

We are already recruiting teachers for next year’s Religious Education program 2006-2007. Grades 7,8,9,10 are the grades for which we are most in need (Grades 11 & 12 have enough teachers). If you would consider helping out with the program, please come to an information night in the lower rectory on Thursday, March 16th at 7:00 p.m. This will be a good opportunity to get an overview of each grade, to take a look at the books and teaching materials. If you decide then that you would like to volunteer for a particular grade level, you can either teach your own class or team teach with a friend. We really pray you consider this and come to the meeting. For more information, call Ann Cronin 781-933-9334. Thank you.

SECOND COLLECTION

Each year, the annual Peter’s Pence collection, in support of the works of the Holy Father, is held on the First Sunday of Lent. Please give generously to this collection next weekend. March 4/5th.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Fasting, doing without food or drink, or things that bring pleasure for a period of time, has always been part of religious worship. Fasting is putting prayer into action. We seek the divine above the material, the physical. Jesus is criticized because He and His men do not fast. In the first place, Jesus did fast and pray, spending 40 days in the desert fasting and praying. His followers had given up their jobs and families to follow Him. Any better fasting than that! But because they did not go around with sad faces, because they went to people’s homes for meals, they were criticized. Now that He is with them they will share in the happiness of having the “groom” with them. It’s time for a new approach - “new wine” is the teaching of Jesus. Fasting is not the major theme. It is love. If we love by doing God’s will that will be fasting enough.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
