GIVING

In considering your gifts of time, talent and treasure, we can ask ourselves several questions to aid in our decision whether to join Parish Ministries at St. Barbara’s. In what ways has the gift of someone’s time and talent aided my life and my family? What are the issues or causes that should be supported? What are my special gifts that might be shared with an individual or a group? How can I be part of the solution instead of part of the problem? How can I make a positive movement toward the gift of time, talent and treasure to my Church or society at large? In what ways can I give back in thanksgiving for the gift of my life?

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Today we have cancer, AIDS, or sudden heart attack that causes fear and dread in the hearts of people. In Jesus’ day it was leprosy, a disease that rotted the flesh and caused complete disintegration of one’s life. The leper was completely abandoned. He could not enter the synagogue, the temple. He could never see his wife and children, never go home nor do any work. He was the living dead. Jesus is not afraid. He touches the leper and heals him. This may have been the first time in years that the poor leper had anyone touch him, or even come close to him. He is cured. The Lord is not afraid. He is not repulsed by the sight and smell of the leper. He is not afraid of becoming “unclean” as he legally was by touching a leper. He is above all that. He is the Master of love, compassion, mercy and forgiveness. How much God loved the leper and us to send His Son, our Brother. What would He not do to show us the greatness of God’s love for us.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

VOCATIONS

Vocations are everybody’s business – and so we, as a parish, are asked to focus on praying for vocations. More than ever, the Church now needs good and holy priests. Send your prayers to God that many young men answer the challenge to serve in the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston. Pray also for the many good and faithful priests of our Archdiocese who persevere in these troubled days.

WORDS TO LIVE BY

  • Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present and future.
  • Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.
  • Those who love the young best, stay young longer.
