To this end the Archdiocese of Boston has adopted a number of policies aimed at creating such safe environments within it's programs. These policies focus on leadership selection and training, and on placing barriers to abuse within these programs. It is the policy of the Archdiocese to educate clergy, staff, volunteers, parents, and other adults about the nature of the problem and appropriate responsive actions.

This training provides those involved in ministry and service to children with greater understanding of their role as adults in our church to be protectors of children, models of appropriate behavior and relationships, and advocates for those who are most vulnerable.

A team of parish volunteers has been trained to present this material through the VIRTUS® -- Protecting God's Children™ program. Training sessions are held annually (usually in the Fall) for those who are required to attend.
