ST. BRIDGET'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY

November 26, 2013 will mark the 150th Anniversary of St. Bridget Parish in Abington, MA. This date in 1863 also marked an announcement by President Abraham Lincoln that the nation would celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday.

We are in the process of planning our celebration events in November to mark our anniversary and your help is needed. We are looking for old photographs for an Anniversary Booklet. Envelopes with photos can be dropped off at the rectory to the attention of the 150th Anniversary Committee. Please include your name, address and telephone number. All photos will be returned.

Volunteers are also needed to help plan a 150th Gala Dinner Dance, a 150th Anniversary Mass along with gathering sponsors and memorials.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering should come to a meeting in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Questions should be forwarded to: StBridget150th@verizon.net.

All are welcome at the May Procession on Wednesday, May 15 at the 9:00 am Mass.  Mrs. Flynn’s 2nd grade class will assist in the school liturgy and receive the Eucharist at their first school Mass.

Please pray for pleasant weather for our school’s annual Field Day on Friday, May 17.  The students look forward to a fun day!!!

May is the Month of Mary, consider praying the Rosary.

We have raised $42,600 so far through the proceeds from the St. Patrick’s Day Drawing and other donations.   The estimates for our new Church roof are averaging about $45,000 to remove the present roof and replace it completely.  Donations for the remainder are gladly being accepted.

PARISH PRIDE

Please Help!  At the end of Mass, please return your missals/music book to the rack in your pew and place the worship cards with the new prayers to the end of the pew.  Also, either take home your bulletin, or return it to the door of the Church.  Please do not leave them in the pew.  When leaving the Church, as an act of Christian charity, please look to the pews as you pass by and do the same for someone who may have forgotten to do it themselves.  Thanks so much!!!

Abington Cares for Troops (ACT) Hosts First Annual Care Package Drive

Abington Cares for Troops (ACT) is having its First Annual Care Package Drive going on now through May 12th, and is planning an Ecumenical Memorial Day Ceremony and town-wide pack and wrap on May 19th in preparation of the observation of Memorial Day. This is a great opportunity for Abington to come together as a community to support our Troops currently serving overseas and experience the true meaning of Memorial Day.  ACT is encouraging the public to participate in the Care Package event by donating items and help assemble the care packages and write notes to the service members at the Pack and Wrap on May 19th, following a short ceremony in honor of Memorial Day.  Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to help defer the costs of shipping and shipping materials can mail a check payable to: The American Legion, Post 112, P.O. Box, Abington, MA 02351 Attn: Abington Cares for Troops (ACT) or stop by The American Legion at 1027 Washington St., Abington.  The Ecumenical Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at the Memorial Wall on Washington Street between the American Legion and the Frolio Middle School, at 12:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Michele Christian-Oldham, 781/308-1453 or Christie Coombs 781/982-1608.
