I Fr. Lawrence P. McCarthy was appointed pastor in 1877. Shortly thereafter, Fr. Michael Clark became the new pastor of Sacred Heart Parish. Fr. Michael Clark was pastor from 1881 to 1906, and in that time, erected a large brick schoolhouse for elementary grades and a parochial residence for priests. The children of the school were taught by the Sisters of Notre Dame until 1911 where then the Order of Dominican Nuns would replace them. On January 30, 1965 a fire completely consumed Sacred Heart but through much dedication the church was rebuilt in 1966. Our thriving Parish today is due, in no small part, to the combined efforts and dedication of Pastors who accepted the mantle of “caretaker” and the challenge of “torch bearer” for Sacred Heart Parish down through these many years. Thank you…….. Rev. James H. O’Neil, Rev. Patrick J. McCarthy, Rev. Thomas C. Garrahan, Rev. Charles Donahue, Rev. Paul Despuoy, Msgr. Killian, Most Reverend John P. Boles, Rev. Vincent J. Piscitelli, Fr. Joseph Wilson, Fr. Vincent Gianni, Fr. Chambers, Rev. Albert J. Sallese, Fr. Brian J. McHugh, and last but not least our current Pastor Rev. Wayne L. Belschner.
Over the past years many changes have occurred; namely, the closing of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Mary Star of the Sea. Although we are saddened at their closing we were blessed by their willingness to make Sacred Heart Parish their new spiritual home. May Gob bless our family. - September 2009
