Keynote ~ Imbued With Spirit and Power: Sacred Liturgy and Sacred Catechists
Monsignor James Moroney
The
fathers of the Second Vatican Council called for "full, conscious and
active participation" in the Liturgy from the inside out. Catechists
have been consecrated by God to proclaim this participation with their words and
with their lives. Monsignor Moroney will explore how the living out of a
liturgical spirituality can give catechists the grace they need to lead the
families of our parish communities to the "source and summit of the entire
Christian life."
Registration deadline is OCTOBER 18
The
keynote address will be ASL interpreted. Two weeks notice is needed to provide
interpreters for the workshops.
Workshop Session A: 11:25 a.m. ~ 12:40 p.m.
I'm a Catechist... What Do I Do Now?
John Collins
Catechist trainer, Consultant for Sadlier;
This session will focus on management ideas, teaching strategies,
activities, & tips for being a successful catechist.
More importantly, it will provide a wealth of information for catechists
to support their efforts in creating positive & productive learning
experiences, even in situations that are less than “ideal”.
Thank you to Sadlier for sponsoring this workshop
Engaging
Parents in First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation
Fran
Hauck, DRE/Pastoral Associate, Holy Name Parish, West Roxbury
Applying Disney's Special Agent Oso’s Three Special Steps to
the First Reconciliation and First Eucharist programs in a parish can increase
parental involvement and empowerment; hence increase the chance that parents are
more committed to and comfortable in nurturing the faith of their children.
Workshop participants will hear about the Three Special Steps of Sacramental Preparation (including an
enrollment Mass and retreat experience) that one parish uses and can be adapted
to different settings.
Mission Awareness with Children: Introducing Children to God's Children
From Other Lands
Maureen Crowley Heil Director of Programs and Development,
Pontifical Mission Society
Through Baptism, Catholics are called to share
their gift of faith with others and be a part of the worldwide mission of the
Church. The Holy Childhood Association (HCA) offers young Catholics an
opportunity to grow in their faith through mission education, sacrifice and
service to others. Age-appropriate
materials and activities, prayers and mission stories will be shared and
demonstrated.
RCIA – Getting Started on the Right
Track
Father Brian Mahoney, Pastor, Saint Francis Parish, Dracut
Where to begin – or how to improve – RCIA in your parish: a
brief look at the stages and rites of the RCIA process.
One Family, Two Faiths: Working with Ecumenical and Inter-religious
Families
Edward O'Flaherty, SJ, Archdiocesan Director, Office of Ecumenical and
Inter-religious Affairs
Vito Nicastro, Associate Director, Office of Ecumenical and
Inter-religious Affairs
Religious education in a two-faith
family can present challenges. Discussion will touch on how to navigate these
potentially choppy waters.
An Evangelizing Catechesis
David Thorp Director, Catholics Come
Home
“Since my First Communion,” said the fourth grader, without a blush, in
the religious education class I was teaching, “my family doesn’t go to
church except maybe Christmas and Easter.”
Sound familiar? How do we
reach out to, invite, and welcome families who may be distant from the parish
community into fuller participation in the life of Christ?
Workshop Session B: 2:00 - 3:15
Communicating to Teens (and their parents) about Life,
Love and Relationships
Marianne Luthin, Archdiocesan Director,
Pro-Life Office
This workshop will offer practical help to catechists in effectively
communicating the Church’s teachings on life, love and relationships to middle
school and high school students with special emphasis on the Created
for Love and Vocation of Love
programs. A brief introduction/overview of John Paul II’s “theology of the
body” and its integration into the programs of the Respect Life Education
Office will be included.
Religious Education for Children and Youth with
Different Learning Abilities
Patricia Marks, DRE, Saint Michael Parish,
Bedford and Team
All children are welcome! We are called to bring
the message of Jesus’ love to all. This
workshop will present hands-on activities for teaching the faith to children
with different learning abilities, such as autism, Down syndrome, and others.
The presentation will highlight a curriculum where the students are
taught in small groups, visually, through stories, flannel board, and other
activities
Confirmation Retreats:
Can they be a DIY endeavor?
Regina O’Connor DRE/YM Most Precious
Blood, Dover; St Theresa Parish,
Sherborn
What are the ingredients needed to make the Confirmation retreat prayerful and
fruitful for candidates? This
workshop will look at some retreat components and suggest ways that a parish can
design and implement their own Confirmation retreat.

Covenant
and the Character of God
In the
Old Testament "covenant" is the main metaphor used to describe the
relationship between God and Israel.
Christians lay claim to a "new
covenant." We use the language easily. But what does it mean and what does it reveal
about the character of God?

CHRISM, Master of Arts in Ministry Faculty
