THE CASAVANT OPUS #1484 ORGAN
The original Hook and Hastings organ was Opus #1531 of
the Hook and Hastings Company
(established in 1827). The organ was installed in the year 1892 when Rev. Anatole
Police, s.m. was pastor at OLV..
In 1933, Robert Morel, Sr., who was the New England
representative for Casavant Brothers of St. Hyacinth, Quebec, had a new organ
built for the church
(Opus#1484).
Nothing was retained from the Hook and Hastings organ except for the pipework
and its entire case. The present organ has 28 stops (11 stops were dropped from
the original organ).
Over the years the organ has been played by some of the
greatest organists, one of whom was Petri Yon, renowned organist and
composer.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra has utilized
the organ on many occasions. The organ has taken on the character of the Church
and the acoustics are beyond praise. |
