2008-2009 Scholarship Committee Members
Membership and responsibilities of Scholarship Committee members:
Scholarship Committee members are responsible for the development of rules, guidelines and criteria regulating the qualification and procedure relative to the Chao/Hines Scholarship, with advice and consent from the BCCC Council.
 Scholarship Committee members are responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of eligible candidates for the Chao/Hines Scholarship.
 Members of the Scholarship Committee must be members of BCCC.
 Service on the Scholarship Committee is voluntary and members are recruited from BCCC by the standing Scholarship Committee. There must be a member from the Mandarin Speaking Groups and the Youth Group represented on the Scholarship Committee.
 Applicant information must be kept confidential and will be released only upon a request by the applicant himself or herself and only to review his or her own individual file.
 The Co-Chairs are elected by the standing Scholarship Committee.
 The responsibility of the Co-Chairs is to coordinate all the activities of the Scholarship Committee including but not limited to: setting up committee meetings, updating and copying of scholarship forms and information, facilitating meetings, mailing out scholarship information, notification of committee decisions to all applicants, attending BCCC Council meetings, and organizing other outreach, publicity, or such related activities.
 In addition to attending scholarship meetings and evaluating candidates, at-large members of the Scholarship Committee are responsible to help with some aspect of outreach, publicity and/or such related activities.
 Expenses connected with the Scholarship Committee shall be reimbursed by BCCC.
 There must be a minimum of 5 members on the Scholarship Committee, including the Co-Chairs.
 A judging panel, consisting of a minimum of 5 members, shall be drawn from the Scholarship Committee, to evaluate scholarship applications and to select award recipients. The judging panel must include one representative each from the Mandarin Speaking Groups and the Youth Group.
 In any given year, if any member of the judging panel is perceived to be in conflict of interest due to his/her relationship with an applicant, that member shall remove himself/herself from the judging panel. Another member of the Scholarship Committee shall replace the judge, if needed to maintain the minimum number required on the panel. Any replacement of a judge must maintain the Mandarin Speaking Groups' and the Youth Group's representation within the judging panel. In the event that it is not possible to maintain the requirements put forth in the previous item, qualified replacement(s) shall be appointed from the BCCC community to maintain such requirements for that year.
