The Retreat Units of the Monastery of the Most Holy Redeemer Bolwarra Heights Maitland, NSW, are an initiative of the Redemptoristine Nuns. Redemptoristine Nuns are cloistered contemplatives, serving the Church through a hidden, silent, solitary apostolate of Prayer, Praise, Intercession and Atonement, offered gladly and with great joy and love, in union with Christ the Redeemer, for the salvation of the whole of humanity. The Retreat Units offer an opportunity to share the peaceful, prayerful atmosphere of the Monastery and to join the Nuns in their life of Prayer and penance. They provide opportunity for spiritual refreshment and renewal, a sacred place of transformation and union with God. They invite those who aspire to come, to leave the ‘hurley burley of secular life’ and rest awhile in God. |
Retreatants are encouraged to attend the spiritual exercises of the Nuns… the Holy Mass, Divine Office, Eucharistic Adoration … to dwell apart for ‘just a while’, in silence and solitude and stillness and tranquillity…… as the Spirit leads them
The beauty of the natural scenery and pastoral setting, provide the ideal location for this encounter with God, in reflection and silence, prayer and contemplation.
Retreatants are encouraged above all to respect the silence of the Monastery as an aid in their monastic retreat.
Spiritual books are provided in the Retreat Units as well as a retreat programme and suggestions for making their silent retreat.
Opportunity is given during the retreat for a spiritual talk with one of the Sisters, upon request only.
It is important to keep in mind that the Monastery Retreat Units are not a ‘cheap hotel’ but rather a living, breathing sanctuary to foster the spiritual life, not only of the nuns themselves but also of their retreatants.
