St. Philip Parish
Music Ministry
This ministry includes
the parish congregation. Music Ministry naturally unites
the singer with the song, the singer with listeners, and
singers with each other as a symbol of the Church's
unity. The congregation's joining with Music Ministry is
part of their active participation in the liturgy.
Music Ministry helps support and leads the congregation
with balanced judgment that is musical, liturgical, and
pastoral. This requires pastoral musicians. All are
welcome to participate. We are flexible and work on
growing personal skills of pastoral musicians. We need
choristers in all choirs. We have a great need for
guitars with the Contemporary Choir. Instrumentalists
(flute, oboe, violin, trumpet, percussion, etc.) are
welcome who can read music fairly well and would like
occasional participation - they help make occasions
special. Sound board technician(s) are needed who can
help adjust the choir loft's system when changes are
made. Cantors support congregational singing with organ
accompaniment when choirs are not available. These
pastoral musicians are members of the community who
share faith, serve the community, and express the love
of God and neighbor through music.
Youth Choir
The Youth Choir sings at some
8:30 AM
Masses and is open to St. Philip Parish youth grade four
and older. Age exceptions may be made. Youth are
introduced to vocal technique, music reading, and a
variety of musical styles as they learn more about the
integral role of music in the liturgy.
Traditional
Choir
The Traditional Choir gathers in the music room 1 and
sings for the
10:00
Mass. We work to balance musical challenge and
enjoyment.
Contemporary
Choir The
Contemporary Choir provides liturgical music for the
11:30am Mass. The selection of music ranges from
songs written by today's Catholic composers, praise and
worship, and more "traditional" hymns with a
more contemporary interpretation. We welcome all
musicians and singers in leading the congregation in
worship. Practices are the second and fourth
Thursdays of every month.
