Pastoral Care of the Sick

Please notify the parish office of parishioners who are hospitalized or confined to home and desire visitation or Eucharist or anointing. Communal anointing services are celebrated in Advent and Lent.

Legion of Mary

THE LEGION OF MARY is the largest world-wide apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over three million active members in almost every country in the world. Founded in Dublin, Ireland in 1921 by Frank Duff, it has been active in the United States since 1931. It has been approved by the last six popes and was endorsed at the Second Vatican Council. It is an organization of Catholic men, women, and children. Membership is often referred as a lay vocation and provides an opportunity to do something meaningful and positive for the Church while at the same time deepening one's spiritual life and strengthening one's Catholic faith.

WHAT DOES IT DO? Members participate in a balanced program of prayer and service. The Legion assists the pastor in such apostolic works as a parish census, visitation to parishioners and shut-ins, prison ministry, and meeting other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the pastor.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Active Members meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion. Then, working in pairs, members also perform two hours of definite work each week under the guidance of the spiritual director. Auxiliary Members attend no meetings, but are required daily to pray the Rosary and the Legion prayers contained in the Tessera. The combined Legion prayers and rosary takes about 20 minutes. Those under 18 seeking active membership will belong to a junior group.

WON’T YOU JOIN US? We meet Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in Room 108 across from the Parish Office.

Weekend Retreat For Women

April 4 - 6, 2008
Dominican Retreat House
Retreat is a special time set aside to renew our relationship with God in a prayerful atmosphere away from daily distractions. The location is welcoming and peaceful.

The theme for 2008 is: "Rejoice in hope, be patient under trial, persevere in prayer." - Romans 12:12. Franciscan Fr. Bert Karwacki is our Retreat director. The schedule includes: daily conferences; time for private prayer and meditation/rest; sacrament of reconciliation; and daily celebration of the Eucharist. None of these events is mandatory.

Each individual room has a bed, desk, chair, sink and individual climate control. You get delicious meals. (No cooking!) Car pools are being arranged for those who wish to share rides -- including one that will arrive in McLean early for dinner out. The weekend begins at 7:15 Friday and ends around 3 pm Sunday.

Dominican retreat is in the Roman Catholic tradition but is open to anyone seeking spiritual renewal and prayer. It is an opportunity to nourish the spirit and grow closer to God.

The suggested offering is $240. A deposit of $60 is requested with your reservation. The Dominican policy is to welcome all regardless of their ability to pay. A number of women take advantage of this policy and some make installment payments. The nuns rely on donations to cover the difference between the actual cost and the average offering.
