Elizabeth Ministry

We welcome families with new babies to the St. Ann community and provide fellowship for expectant parents and parents with young children. Our ministry reaches out to families and helps them connect with other families with babies of the same age. We help support families during baptism preparation, and an Elizabeth Ministry volunteer offers to bring a meal to each family after their child arrives as a sign of welcome. When needed, we assist families with any special needs they may have to make life a bit easier during an often stressful time. Informal monthly gatherings bring together parents and their children for conversation, commiseration, support and childs play.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over three million active members in almost every country in the world. It is an organization of Catholic men and women, formed into an army for service in the spiritual warfare which the Church is perpetually waging against the evil forces in the world. Membership is often referred to as a lay vocation, and it provides an opportunity to do something meaningful and positive for the Church while at the same time deepening spiritual life and strengthening Catholic faith. A Legionary must forget himself, his own comforts and desires, and concentrate completely on what he can do for others with the power of the Holy Spirit and the ministering help of Mary, our Blessed Mother.

At St. Ann, the Legion assists the pastor in apostolic work such as hospital ministry, door-to-door evangelization and Pilgrim Virgin visitation. What has been accomplished? Invalid marriages have been validated, unbaptized children have been baptized, non-practicing Catholics have returned to the Church and non-Catholics have converted to Catholicism.

The Legion meets every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Normally meetings are held on Parish grounds, but during the construction period, meetings are being held in homes. Attend a meeting and see if the Legion is for you. Call Ed or Pam McIntosh during the day at (703) 525-4354 or in the evening at (703) 527-7842.

    Weekend Retreat For Women

    April 4 - 6, 2008
    Dominican Retreat House
Retreat is a special time set aside to renew our relationship with God in a prayerful atmosphere away from daily distractions. The location is welcoming and peaceful.

The theme for 2008 is: "Rejoice in hope, be patient under trial, persevere in prayer." - Romans 12:12. Franciscan Fr. Bert Karwacki is our Retreat director. The schedule includes: daily conferences; time for private prayer and meditation/rest; sacrament of reconciliation; and daily celebration of the Eucharist. None of these events is mandatory.

Each individual room has a bed, desk, chair, sink and individual climate control. You get delicious meals. (No cooking!) Car pools are being arranged for those who wish to share rides -- including one that will arrive in McLean early for dinner out. The weekend begins at 7:15 Friday and ends around 3 pm Sunday.

Dominican retreat is in the Roman Catholic tradition but is open to anyone seeking spiritual renewal and prayer. It is an opportunity to nourish the spirit and grow closer to God.

The suggested offering is $240. A deposit of $60 is requested with your reservation. The Dominican policy is to welcome all regardless of their ability to pay. A number of women take advantage of this policy and some make installment payments. The nuns rely on donations to cover the difference between the actual cost and the average offering.
