New Stained Glass Window
Although it may appear abstract at first glance, the stained glass window over the altar draws on traditional imagery of Christ. The pelican is an ancient symbol of the savior, due to its self-sacrifice: when there is no food to feed its young, the pelican will pierce its own flesh and nourish them with its blood.

In this contemporary rendering, the nest around the beloved young is woven of the crown of thorns and the palms of victory. The pelican's wings envelop the nest in a heart shape and behind the chicks is an abstract cross. The vertical lines run through the image just as God's love and miracles run through his Son.

The Artist
Born in Belfast on Good Friday, 1941, Irish artist Ronald Neill Dixon brings an extensive and diverse set of credentials and experience to his work in the liturgical arts. The son of an organist, he was well grounded in the faith before receiving formal training in his craft at the college level.

With his strong foundation in religion and stained glass, he was sought out by an American studio which sponsored his move to this country in the early 1960's. Working with various glass studios for the next 25 years, Mr. Dixon received hundreds of commissions from churches and temples of diverse denominations throughout the United States and designed each new window individually to produce a work of art reflective of the faith and lives of each religious community. In the early 1990's, he began producing windows under his own name through the Dixon Studio of Virginia.

A true visionary, Ronald Neill Dixon brings new life to the familiar stories of the Bible with his talent for weaving drama and beauty into a believable mix of the human and the holy.
