Religious Education
Home
St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish offers a Religious Education program for
all students from age 4 (preschool) to grade 8. The program operates
from September to May each year. Over two hundred students are in the
program. Registration takes place during the summer months and is
on-going throughout the year for new parishioners.
Currently the pre-kinder and kindergarten program is a Liturgy of the Word
for Children and is held during the 10:45 AM Sunday Mass. Children go
to the Church meeting room to participate in age-appropriate activities
based on a seasonal or scriptural theme of the day. They return for the Eucharistic Prayer.
PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) instructions for students
in grades 1 through 8 are held on Sunday morning in the parish hall and old
church building. Classes are held from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM.
Sacrament preparation programs are a vital part of our PREP program.
First Reconciliation and Communion are received in third grade. This
involves a two-year preparation period. Children must complete two
full years of PREP (first and second grade) to be properly prepared to
receive these sacraments in the third grade.
Confirmation is conferred every other year. The next visit of the
Bishop for Confirmation is scheduled for the year 2009. Preparation
for this sacrament is also a two year program. Students normally
receive the sacrament while in the seventh or eighth grade.
Families with children in need of sacraments should contact Mrs. Marlene
Skoloda for information and registration. Older teens in need of
sacramental preparation and reception should contact Fr. Cieniewicz.
